RElated to the antibiotic allergy

I'm behind on the good drugs game and have not tried tobi or tobra yet. I don't have a lot of antibiotic allergies, but I do have an allergy to neomycin like in neosporin and so I have to use polysporin. I've never had any systematic effect, but if I put neomycin in a cut, it will inflame and puss up and get worse not better.

So does an allergy to neosporin mean no can do on tobi?

Neosporin - Contains bacitracin, neomycin, and polymyxin B.
"Neomycin is not given intravenously, as it is extremely nephrotoxic (it causes kidney damage), especially compared to other aminoglycosides. Even when used topically, the antibiotic ointment may cause side effects; in particular, neomycin is well-known for causing allergic reactions such as allergic contact dermatitis."

So it might not just be a reaction to the neomycin.

Neomycin is an aminoglycosides.
Aminoglycosides include amikacin, gentamicin, kanamycin, neomycin, netilmicin, paromomycin, streptomycin, tobramycin and apramycin.

So if you are allergic to neomycin then you might be allergic to tobi, but you'd have to discuss it with your doctor especially since it could be one of the other drugs in neosporin as a combination, a reaction to another drug, or even just a skin thing. Meds are weird like that.

i would try your 1st dose of TOBI in your doctor's office and have an EPI pen available. Just in case.
