Repossess My Vest

My insurance caps durable medical equipment at $2500/year. Hill Rom wants $15000/year for my vest. They sent me a box so I can ship it back to them. That's not gonna happen. I need this thing and I obviously don't have an extra $1000 per month laying around, especially after hundreds per month in copays and deductibles.

What can they do to me if I tell them to suck it?

Has hill-rom gone thru the appeal process? We have BCBS, and while we have a similar cap, the vest company worked with one of their departments, who determined it was a medical necessity. We still had to come up with $500, but it was bought outright for us. I know another family who had to go thru financing to cover the $3000 that wasn't covered by their insurance.

Otherwise have you checked with one of the other vest companies?

15000/yr??? I thought that was the total cost of the machine. I have never heard of $15000/yr. I would give Hill Rom a call. I would also call your CF Dr and tell him what is going on. Maybe he can send in a letter or something explaining why it is needed so badly. I have never heard of Hill Rom repo a Vest. I always heard that they worked very well with people who's insurance wouldnt pay or didnt have ins at all. I would talk to some people and I wouldnt send it back until I found out a few things.

Sounds like a mix up. Hill Rom billed my insurance as a rental (up to the allowed amount per year) for about 3/4 years until they reached the total "purchase" price.

Dont give up!
