Ring-a-ling-a-ding-dong

Hi,

Me again...

To add to the plethura of "stuff" I have going on, I've noticed today my ears are starting to ring... at least I THINK its ringing....

It happens maybe 2-3 times per day and is just a low ring for maybe 5 seconds. My ears also feel kinda "full" today. And, they crackle when I swallow kinda like when you're really congested from a cold, etc.

So, not sure what this all means and if its enough to warrant stopping the tobra. But, I've been on tobra IV now for nearly 4 weeks.

Has anyone had this extremely intermittan ringing that goes away within a few seconds of starting? Should I be worried? My home health pharmacist is checking with my doc to see what they want to do. They have slowly been decreasing my dose of tobra (q 24 hours) cause my trough has been like .1 too high.

Anyway, what have you experience with regard to ringing when on tobra AND what did the docs do?

Thanks,

I've had ringing in my ears like you describe since i am a kid long before i had any antibiotics, so i know it wasnt Tobra back then.
Now the problem i do get from Tobra now a days is a bit of hearing loss in one ear. Sometimes dizziness that lasts for weeks, but i dont recall getting any ringing. Either way when i start noticing ear problems with the Tobra my Dr. usually lowers the dose a bit for the remainder of the coarse.

The doc just took me off the tobra IVs and put me on aztreonam instead. So, now I'm on aztreonam and ceftazadime for another 2 weeks ((sigh)).... This will be a course of over 5 1/2 weeks IV meds constant. They've now changed my meds 4 times. Good grief. Who knows... Maybe this new combo will work.
