Salty skin question

For those of you who are carriers or have children who are carriers (particularly F508), can you tell me if it is normal to sometimes taste salty? My infant son is a carrier and once in awhile I can pick up a salty trace if I lick the top of his head (behind the hairline, close to his soft spot). I cannot taste it by just kissing, only licking. The taste cannot be found anywhere else on his body. I realize we all have salt in our sweat, but what is considered abnormal? He has absolutely no other symptoms at all. Thanks for any input!!!

It's a long story, but we had the Ambry CF Amplified test done. By the way, I haven't tasted salt on him in quite some time..but I still wanted to ask some of you about your experiences. Sometimes I wonder if I really tasted anything at all or if my imagination was getting the best of me! I know many people who say their kids taste salty from time to time! However, since Ambry says that he is a carrier, I want to know what is normal and what is not.

I can tell you that both my husband and I are carriers of Delta F508 and no one has ever said that we taste salty. We have a son with CF and he has only tasted salty to me twice in his life.

Obviously my husband and i are carriers because our daughter has CF, well anyway i can remember when we were dating that both of us told each other that the other one tasted salty ... when i kiss my husband on his neck i can taste salt. kinda weird because this was before Kait was born so we knew nothing about CF.

I was told that kissing (or licking) someone's skin for salt is not scientific and you can't jump to conclusions about that. I've heard of people WITH cf who don't taste salty at all, and I know plenty of people WITHOUT cf who say they do taste salty at times. Maybe a lot of these people are carriers and don't know it??? I do know a lot of athletes complain about this.

My daughter's skin definitely tastes salty. Didn't notice until she was diagnosed with CF at 6 weeks, didn't have any need to lick it til then I suppose - when I did it was salty!

How long ago was the Ambry testing done? They are finding new genes all the time -- some people I've heard say they could only find one gene, then a few years later were able to find two.

I don't know about being a carrier, but I am very salty, when I take a bath I am prunned up in two minutes flat.,.. does your son wrinkel in the bathtub real fast when you put him in?

The Ambry test was done a month ago. I've read about the wrinkly fingers and I haven't noticed that his wrinkle quickly. However, he is just 4 months old so it's not like he has long baths or anything. Does that logic apply to babies...since their skin is so new and soft??? Seems like they would prune up faster than older children...
