Has anyone else here ever expereinced severe bloating/fluid retention after being given an IV for dehydration? Emily was (In my opinion) given too much IV fluid on Monday in the hospital and she is still very bloated in ther tummy, legs and feet. She was given two doses of Lasics in the hospital, but it did little good.
When we entered the hospital she weighed a little over 18 pounds. At discharge on Wednesday she weighed just over 21 pounds. THree pounds worth of "water weight"!!!
The pediatrician is aware that the bloating does not seem to be getting better, but we just get "wait and see, it will take time." HOW MUCH TIME?????
The latest thing is that her feet, legs and just recently her hands are turning purple. I'm sure there are circulation problems wuith ball the extra fluid...
The ped. says to just change her position when she gets purple.
The poor thing can't move very well - a little crawlig is about it. You can just see how much this frustrstes her. Two weeks ago jhe was walking, climbing, able to play on her own. Now, she just wants to be held and cries all the time.
I am tired of seeing her be uncomfotable, and, frankly, getting worried that there is another underlying problem...some other reason her body can't let go of this fluid. I want my baby back to normal!!!
