Should I get tested for CF?

Hi everyone,
This may be a long note, but thanks in advance for reading. I am a 32 male who is wondering if I may have CF. I am 5'6" 125-130lbs, and have never been able to gain any weight. I have been suffering from severe lack of energy, and have in the past been treated for depression, but antidepressants only seem to work a short while for me. Ths may seem funny, but I got the idea about possibly having CF when I was watching a show about sex, and it said that males with very little ejaculate may have CF. I have a difficulty achieving orgasm, and the amout of my ejaculate has been steadily decreasing over the years, and it seems almost clear, as if there is barely any sperm. So, after watching that show, I looked up CF, and was kind of startled to see some of symptoms I have experienced my whole life. I will list them below:

-I ALWAYS get nasal and lung infections WHENEVER I get sick, thick green phlem. I get sick about 2-3 times a year. Even after I am done feeling sick, I usually caugh phlem for two-three weeks after.

-I seem to have intestinal problems. I often have diarrea after going out to eat at restaurants, usually having to rush home as my stomach is in knots. I also go to the bathroom at least 2, sometime 3 times a day. My stool floats, and I guess is clumpy. Its hard to know what your stool is supposed to look like when you don't see anyone elses! I have been to the hospital a few times with severe abdominal pains, but no diagnosis was made.

-My gums bleed often from brushing my teeth.

-I always have excessive gas.

-I feel so lathargic, and barely have any energy to do things I enjoy. I may be depressed, but I feel as if my depression is based on my lack of energy and motivation, not negative thoughts.

-I dont know if my salt is excessively salty by taste, as I havent done a taste test against my sweat and someone elses =-) I do know that it burns my eyes if Im sweating. I can open my eyes underwater in the ocean and it doesnt burn as bad as it does when sweat goes in my eyes.

I know this may be me taking a shot in the dark, but I am desperate to find out what is wrong with me. I do not have health insurance at this time, so before I go and pay for testing, I want to make sure Im thinking strait. I saw that some people are diagnoised later in adulthood, and some people may have less extreme sympotoms than others.

So, does anyone relate to these symptoms here?

Thank you for any input!

HAve someone lick your head to see if it tastes like salt....AND get a sweat test. It doesn't hurt and it should tell you if you have it.

Good luck and I hope you don't have it. BUT, if you do, you will finally know what is wrong with you so you can treat yourself!

A number of things you mentioned are symptoms of CF: the green mucus, frequent, floaty stools,
excessive gas, lethargy. One other sign of CF is "clubbed" fingertips. This means your fingertips are rounded and fingernails curved rather than flat fingernails (hope that made sense). Being a female, I can't speak for the male sypmtoms except that I've read that CF males can often be sterile.
I would get tested, then you could get correct treatment of everything. If you have CF, you could apply for disability & get insurance thru Medicare, but I think you have to wait 2 years to get the Medicare after being approved for disability.
If you are able to work 40 hrs a week, try to get a government or other job where they offer group insurance.
Good luck & keep us posted.
