Sinuses worse than lungs?

Hello, all!

I was just wondering if anyone else thinks that their sinuses are just as much if not more of a problem than your lungs! I just recently had a doctor's appointment where I did a PFT. The numbers were down, but when my doc listened to my lungs, he said that I was moving air very well and was more concerned about my sinuses.

I had the sinus surgery preformed about seven months ago, and some of the tissue that they removed up there had some nasty bugs growing. Even though I don't get any sinus headaches anymore, I still have terrible allergies (mostly to pollen) and sometimes a post-nasal drip that results in a lung infection. I think I'm doing everything I can for it; nasal lavages, Flonase, and Sudafed when it gets really bad. I just find it odd that most of my problems seem to start in my head, not my chest!

Does anyone else have this same issue? If so, is there anything else you do for it that you've found helpful?

Thanks for listening (reading...whatever <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">)

Hmm, rhinocort usually keeps me cleared up.

Although if I start to feel all sinusy up there I use a saline spray. Hypertonic saline. I cut half a bottle of ocean spray and fill the rest up with that 10% stuff. Seems to help. Or you can just go for the straight stuff [pure 10% hypertonic saline up the nose] though if you do that I advise you to do it in the shower since it stings like.. well it stings anyway.

There have been times when Kait was sick and i thought that she would be admitted, went to clinic and found out that her chest was clear and that it was sinuses. She has not had surgery and i do not know that i want her to when the time comes.

YES! I was just thinking about this as I was sitting at jury selection (bah) with a raging sinus headache that definitely want to bring up sinus problems with my doc at my next clinic visit. Everything starts in my sinuses - everything. Colds and infections do move into my chest, but more often than not, they just stay right between my eyes. I have never had sinus surgery - is it worth it? Does it clear up problems or is it just a temporary fix? I suffer from sinus headaches almost daily. and I am sure the drip contributes to my cough.
I do use a neti pot that I fill with salt water and goldenseal tincture, and it works, but only temporarily.

Hi, my boyfriend definetely has more problems with his sinuses than with his lungs. He has had 14 sinus surgeries (he's 23 now), one just last January but his lungs are great (between 110-117). The doctors definetely put more emphasis if you want on his sinuses especially since a sinus infection can easily go down to the lungs.

My sinuses have never been bad enough to need surgery but they have always given me more trouble than my lungs. I get 4 or 5 sinus infections a year and maybe 1 or 2 (if that) chest colds/bronchitis a year.
