I have seen several mothers post that their children with CF receive social security. This is not something we need right now, but I was curious as to how this all works? What criteria do they have to meet and does it affect anything in th efuture for them?

You have to meet certain income & resource limits. The resource limit is $3000 (meaning money in the bank/savings, doesn't include home/cars). Income limit is relatively low as well.
In terms of future effects, after the 24th month of receiving disability benefits, the recipient then qualifies for Medicare.
Children can also receive survivor's benefits through Social Security if one of the parents is deceased.
