I've been getting this pain on and off on my left chest, about 2-3 inches below my breast. It's directly on top of and slightly below the bottom rib bone. This has been on and off for months. But not to the point where I've been like OMG I'm in pain. And it's really not that bad now. But it come and goes alot more now. Especially at night.

It's not sharp-it's like a gentle dull continuous ache-like similar to a muscle ache. I can't tell if it's muscular, in the lung, or even my gallbladder. Now FYI-I had routine lung xrays a few weeks ago, and no one noticed anything weird. This may sound kinda weird-and embarassing!-but when my hubby and I were being lovey dovey-he had his weight on me, and all the sudden I got this sharp pain there. And then it went. It happened a few times like that.

I told this to my doc months ago and she thought it was GI related. I am in the process of having the appropriate endoscopies done with my new GI doc. But that take time and this coming now more at night is new to me.

So anyone hear of anything like this? Any help would be very very appreicated. I'm worried-and especially want to rule out gallballder-b/c I don't know what a gallbladder attack/problem feels like. FYI I had my gallbladder checked out when I was 17 and it was fine but I don't know if that was too long ago now.

Thanks.

My husband had weird pains at various times from:

costochronditis (sp?)
pleurisy
all bladder or pancreatitis (Forget which side those buggers are on)
broken rib just from coughing

Too many possiblities to self-dianosis. Got to get the docs in on this one.

Let us know what they find out.
Hope you feel better soon...

I would lean more towards the digestive tract. I know many times that a problem occurs on the left side with blockages, pain etc. For me even simple constipation is felt on my left side & when I was in last year & it got so bad the pain was right under my left rib. Sometimes its hard to tell where the problem is actually occuring since pain radiates to different areas from the actual source. Obviously it could be anything, but IMHO I think Dr. W is on the right tract (GI Tract LOL). Good Luck!

thanks for your responses-
See, I'm leaving the country in a week for a vacation overseas. You all know I just went through the 'hospital' ringer for a month, so b/c of that, I have SO much to do and catch up on before I go.

Since this pain is nothing really new, I would like to put off addressing this till I get back. Of course if it was sharp pain or whatever I'd go to the er right away-I don't want to be stuck in a hospital overseas!

I lean towards Gastro on this-I just realized too I had that blockage scare a few days ago, and the IV meds I just got off of always mess up my gi tract. ???

Any more experiences or advice would be welcome.

I forgot one thing-

one of you mentioned broken/fractured rib- anyone out there ever had one? And how did it feel? I mean if its pain beyond belief I don't have one. Like Amy said about the gallbladder attack, (I kinda thought I wasn't having that.) And that wouldn't go on for months and months. But I've heard of people walking around with broken ribs and not even realizing it.

So if I can use the process of elimination here it would help. I can't call my doc anyway till tommorrow.

you dog amy......LOL!

I'm going to Dubai, off the arabian penninsula near the indian ocean. Then Paris for a few days b/c that's where our stopover is.

The question everyone asks us is 'why Dubai'? Well, we 1st had planned to go to Egypt which has been my life long dream and also b/c I speak a little Arabic. Then we just couldn't b/c to do Egypt safely-the only way we'd do it-is just too expensive. That'll be a 20th anniversary trip.<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
So I said, honey-let's think about Dubai-it's 100% safe, warm, modern and glamorous but still Arabic. And we looked into and and fell in love with the idea. So we're doing it.

I was just reading the thread on cracked ribs-and you know what? I wouldn't be surprised if that's it. You know I can't sleep on that side of my body at night now, it's painful, if I have any pressure on my chest it hurts, it so weird. And the first time I felt the pain, as I mentioned, I was in a ......um......position with alot of pressure on my chest.
Well I have a routine Xray in a few weeks-I'll mention it then. And if it gets worse I'll call the doc.
