Some info worth passing on

I recieved a letter fromt the CFF warning against the inhalation of Oregano oils or other OILS. It can cause problems and actually give bacteria a great place to grow (if you think on it, the design of the body, the type of environment where bacteria thrives... it is quite logical). Plus the oil stays in your lungs and is not normally secreted so it can stay in forever. It also has only mild antibiotic affect that can cause the bacteria to easily become resistant to it.

It can cause a condition called lipod pneumonia and is very difficult to treat. General oregano has only been found safe in oral consumption at the recommended amount.

I am one who has always been supportive of supplements, herbs and natural products but I have been weary of the mention and use of inhaling oils since it was first mentioned on this site. Especially if you have lung complications and bacteria growth already-just doesn't make any sense to me.

I know there will be disagreements to this information, and that's fine. But I did want to share it with everyone.

Ya i read that as well. Although most vegetable oils are expectorated...I guess it's better to be safe than sorry and inhale the water soluble kind of oo.

However, it's clain on it having mild antibacterial properties is kinda wierd. What basis do they make that claim on? Most of the stuff I have read has said the opposite, and has proven it to be quite effective.

Just wondering about the water soluble aspect too. Is the fact that an oil is water soluble or not defined clearly enough in all reviews? I wonder. I don't take the OO, but I would imagine that to be a pretty crucial part of it all. Julie, did it mention that?

That was my same line of thinking, whether the water soluable OO is tolerable, and wouldn't have to worry about oil build up. That's the one reason that I haven't tried the inhaled oil yet - build up.

Well, if it was water soluble, then there would be no build up. Water soluble is water soluble. The reason oil could build up is because it is insoluble with water...that is, it doesn't mix with it.

I doubt they would even know that there was water soluble oregano oil.

To be honest, I am not familiar with anything to do with the water soluable solution and nothing was mentioned in the information by the CFF. It would be something worth investigating, but it makes sense that it would not pose a build up problem. Although how many important properties you loose would be a big question?????

Fortunately, I'm only doing the oo orally.
Even then, I made the mistake yesterday of not taking it BEFORE meals, as it states. It seemed to give me a little indigestion, and EVERY TIME i burped, It tasted like I had too much SPAGHETTI!! that day (and I didn't have ANY that day!)
It finally went away, when I had eaten a fairly large snack that afternoon.
the question regarding water-soluable would be whether the lungs generally has water or enough liquids to absorb!
Also, since oil IS oil, the oo is probably more diluted for the water soluable type.
Something to ponder with...mixing oo nebs with pot....hmm..anyone wanna try that experiment??

Guys-
I think it is so important to be cautious with oo, but having said that, they have no idea about water soluable I am sure. And, they sent out the same letter after valerie hudson went on the today show about glutathione...and a full THREE years later, NOW they are doing tests on inhaled glutathione because it HELPS. Remember the Lorenzo's OIL? Remember how the ALD Foundation tried to block the news of the Odone family from helping others with their little oil invention? If you don't know the story, goole lorezo's oil. Basically, the father of a sick child with ALD (a neuro-degenerative disease....always fatal) teaches himself biology, chemistry, medicine...whatever..to understand his son's illness. In doing so, he finds a way with a certain oil...(one that ald kids are lacking) to stave off the onset of the illness in most boys....It has now been 15 years and the FDA has still not approved this oil (rapeseed oil and something else) for treatment of this illness. it was being made outside the us and shipped in until recently.....Would this oil hurt a normal person...yea. Did it hurt any ALD boys? No, it only stopped the progression or onset of the illness...because they needed it. Mr. Odone and his wife went against the medical community and educated themselves and helped thousands in the process. I don't endorse anything except a will to live...sean davis has found something that helped himand his ideas could lead to something great. Also, keep in mind...all these new drugs that are coming out...like VERTex are made in cooperation with the CFFT...that would be the new business venture of the cf foundation...cf pharmaceuticals. You may or may not be aware of the GIGANTIC mess this created when the people found out that the CFF pres invested in the new company and he would be benefitting monetarily from the new drugs....yikes. Take a lesson from the Odone's...all proceeds from the sale of the oil go towards The Myelin Project....a project to reverse the demyelination in neuro-degenerative diseases....a RESEARCH project...not padding the pockets of people who already are filthy rich.....

WE need the CF Foundation...but they need US too.

I am in agreement with you Julie....as many of you know I have never subscribed to the OO phenomenon. I have always thought this was a dangerous and ill-advised practice. I want everyone to do as they wish but there are medicines out proven to be safe and effective and I will stick with those.

Hi all,<br>
I have to agree with Julie as well. Having said that, I did
thorough research (not just on google, but through my university
where I study) on OO and the antimicrobial benefits of OO have
received worthy mention in reputable science and medical journals,
therefore I stand by my decision to take only three drops under the
tongue (and no more) for a trial of no more than two -three
months.<br>
<br>
As far as inhaling OO, I never felt that was a good idea. Granted,
that some use the water soluble solution as opposed to the oil, but
I'm assuming this solution only comes in a bottle (as opposed to
single use, sterile, ampoules like mainstream respiratory meds).
Therefore, even though using the 'water soluble' solution may
decrease the risk of lipid pneumonia, I would be very hesitant to
be inhaling a solution that has come out of non-sterile bottle that
has been opened and re-opened each time I go for a
dose.    <br>
<br>
I by no means want to offend the many of you that are using OO via
the neb, it is certainly everyon's

Oops... didn't get to finish what I was saying....<br>
<br>
I was trying to end by saying that although it is everyone's
personal choice, please be aware that OO like other herbal
treatments can adversely affect our health, especially if not
used according to guidelines.<br>
<br>
Another note: I have read that OO is not recommended for people who
have a history or potential for liver disease. In fact, I read that
it should not be used by people who are even on antibiotics because
of the potential for liver toxicity. Given that I (and I am
assuming many on this site) frequently take many potentially toxic
antibiotics, please if you're using OO, next time you visit your
clinic / doctor, ask them to do a blood test and check your liver
function..... just to be safe (before you all think I'm nuts, I'm
also a Registered Nurse .... for many years.... so, I feel like I
owe it you all to be aware.)<br>
<br>
Take care

So, if you don´t want to get lipoid pneumonia: don´t cook too much or work at McDonalds<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">

Look at that: <a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://annhyg.oxfordjournals.org/cgi/content/full/46/4/395

So how are you all getting letters from the CFF and why don't we all get them? I am on the 'CF registry' is there something else I need to sign up for? Or are you getting these OO letters from your clinic not the CFF?
