Spinoza Bear

Yesterday, Maggie got a Spinoza Bear from a charity grant from our state. It was a total surprise. I guess she was "picked" to get it. I had never heard of a Spinoza Bear before. It is a stuffed bear that comes with a CD player inside and plays songs and teaches breathing techniques. It is used for children with cancer or pain or CF. You can put your own music in it and it even has head phones. Of course Maggie loves it and renamed the bear Lucy. I was so touched but it also made me sad(can't explain). Just wanted to let ya'll know about the bear, I think it's a great idea for the hospital, getting IV's done and blod drawn.

Rebecca,
I can understand your sadness about the bear. Our cf kids have to endure so much to keep them healthy. To me the bear would remind me of how much we ask of them.
It does sound like a great thing to help kids with all the tests, pokes and treatments they need to do.

Wow, that is very cool. I understand the sadness, though. It makes itall too real knowing someone wants to nsend it to YOUR daughter, because of her illness. I get it. I have a friend who got a call from Make a Wish for her young CF son. She flipped out on the phone, telling them they had it all wwrong and why in the world would they call her -- she was insulted, blah blah blah. Obviously she overreacted, but it was because it is shocking to hear that your child's disease is as bad as others think it is -- does that make sense?

When the bear came yesterday, I almost didn't give it to Maggie. I was thinking, there are other children who are sicker than her who should get this toy. I thought I'ld wait to give it to her til she got sick. Then I thought about the VEST she does every day(for an hour),the 6 nebs she does every day among other things. Then I thought stupid me, WHY WAIT. Maggie does her daily treatments like a good little girl every day and that's WHY she is doing well. Regular kids don't do 2 hours of "airway clearance a day" Someone was generous to donate some $ for this toy to make Maggie happy and she deserves this toy. She's going to be making a thank-you note today and hopefully the note will be fowarded to whoever is responsible for providing Maggie this bear. Funny how a little bear can signify so much to me.
