Sputum culture question

So in preparation to going to the CF clinic I just did a sputum culture locally because I have a cold right now and it's easier to get the stuff out. For the past 2 years I'm so dehydrated it doesn't feel like I can easily get stuff out of my lungs.

Anyway, when I did it a lot of spit ended up in the cup although there are a bunch of the yellow floaty mucus things. The tech said "wow there's a lot of spit in there" and asked me if I wanted to do it again in the morning in the shower when supposedly it's easier. I couldn't get a straight answer whether the "too much spit" would screw up the test. Do you guys have any experience with this? To get a good test do you just need huge amounts of mucus and no spit?

As long is there enough mucuous, there can be the same amount of spit. No fears....they obviously are going to test the mucous & "seperate" the spit.
