SSDI

I filed for SSDI around March. I had to take care of some tax paperwork and they just received completed information from me in early May...around May 6th. I have called them a couple of times and they have assured me that they have everything they need. How long does it take for them to make a final decision??? They have had everything they need from me for at least a couple of months.....is there a limit for how long they can drag their feet....could this go on indefinately or are there laws about timelines that they have to make a decision? I qualify under all 3 categories and I am getting a little impatient.

Hello, Skye...

I'm just finishing the process of applying this week, so I'm sure I'm in for a LONG wait too...

I've been told it takes between 3-5 months on average to get an answer. However, the nice thing is if you are accepted, they'll backpay to the date you applied. So, even though there is a wait, if you're accepted, it should be worth it. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Good luck!

Keep in mind that IF you are denied....the retro pay WILL go back to the original application ONLY if you APPEAL! If you reapply then there is a new applicaiton date. Given the fact that it can be a lengthy time for an appeal that adds up to some nice $$

As to the original ??....I dont remember my time line on the initial denial or how long the appeal took, but I will look it up.

I think I got my first rejection about 6 months after I had my phone interview. Then it was 16 (yes SIXTEEN) more months before I got approved (two appeals later). Then an additional 2 months before I got paid.

So I got paid 24 months after starting the process. My payments were backdated 26 months because my initial date of disability, when I quit working on doctors orders, was 2 months before I applied.
