starting hypertonic saline

Ive heard so many great things about hypertonic saline since joining this site. ive always wanted to try it since i heard about it last year, but my doctor didnt think it was a good idea because my lung function wasnt very stable. but since then, my lung function readings have stabilised in the last few months. i rang my physiotherapist today, to ask if it was possible to start the nebs on my next visit this friday. im really looking forward to it! i finally get to start them.
can anyone tell me what to expect the first time i try the neb?? will i cough alot?

Expect to cough a great deal. Depending on how you handle it there might be a chance of reactive airways. Be sure to do your brocho dialator beforehand to minimize this chance. Good Luck & give it a few days before deciding!

I started hypertonic Saline about 6 months ago. At first I was afraid to try it-but it is super easy. For me, it doesn't really make me cough too much. I do notice an increase cough when I am doing it-but that is good since it makes me cough more gunk up! Just make sure you have a glass of water handy-that really helps me! I also do it at the same time I am doing my vest. Good luck-you are going to love it!

It makes me cough alot when I am doing it, and I am coughing a little more during the day (but I also caught my daughter's cold 3 days after I started it about a week ago). However, even with the coughing (which I am assuming is a good thing), I am feeling better already- I am hoping my O2 stats are up at least<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">. Actually, I am doing it right now, and coughing like crazy, and irritating the cat who insists on sitting with me during my vest and meds-LOL!!
