Starting Inhaled Tobi

My doctor just put me on inhaled Tobi-it will be my first time. I will do 3 cycles of 28 days on, 28 days off...to see how it helps me.
I culture staph and steno (not PA) but my doctor still wants me on Tobi because it is a good staph drug as well.
He has been treating me with Doxycyclene (which I will take for 2 weeks now) but I will also add the Tobi - because right now about 1-2 weeks after stopping the doxy I get sick again (tons more coughing, more mucus, etc).
Those of you who are on it, do you like it? Does it help? Should I be scared of any side effects (I am allergic to both sulfa and penecillin).
Thanks!

The taste isnt pleasant, but I kind of got use to it. BE SURE to use albeuterol beforehand as it can cause some airway issues.

The biggest thing I think is that most people have it affect their voice. Some worse then others & some longer then others.

Good Luck on it!

Our son is 6 and has been using tobi since he was 3 months old. Sometimes his voice sounds a little froggy at the start. I also notice that he tends to get a little stuffier. I suspect that this is because we use a mask and his sinuses are probably affected by cf and the tobi is working on all those bugs as well.

Both DH and I notice from sitting with DS that sometimes our noses and throats burn a little bit.

Hopefully your compressor is working well. When we first started tobi it took 45-50 minutes. We had a faulty compressor. It should only take about 20-25 minutes of nebbing.

Hey Marci!

So you're on the Tobi boat, eh? Well, definitely take albuterol beforehand since it usually causes some tightness. Also, be prepared to either lose your voice or have some throat irritation. I still lose my voice from time to time, but I've been on it for so many years now that I think I've sort of gotten used to it at this point. I remember it really bothering my throat at the beginning though.

Hope that helps. Good luck with it!
