Stem Cell Research

Is anyone else out there excited? I'm glad that after 8 years of a man who obviously wasn't close to someone who could benefit from stem cell research, we've got an administration that sees the light.

Thoughts?

I'm all for stem cell research - without the use of aborted fetuses - I'm not going to further my health or my daughter's that way. Cord blood stem cells are less controversial and these cells have the same potential as fetal cells. Anyone else out there just as confused as I am as to why stem cell research is still an issue in light of this fact?

Unfortunately for all that are hopeing for a cure, I don't see anything that says the changes Obama has made will do anything.

Simply put, 'stem cell' research has been legal outside the US (where most of the world lives) all along. In addition, research with the current stem cell lines has been allowed here, it was only the creation of new lines of stem cells from fetuses that was prohibitid.

That said, with all the money spent around the globe, there has yet to be a single cure, or effective & repeatable treatement from stem cells.

There is a lot of promising research, but genetic research has been promising cures for nearly 20 years. Allowing researchers in the US the ability to create new lines of fetal-based stem cells, like the rest of the world, is not going to change this fact.

Sorry to be a bummer but you asked, and frankly I think it is a non-issue.
