Sweating

Hi everyoneI would appreciate ur input on this. Im a 18 pwcf and seem to sweat more than others. Not night sweats or dripping or anything that severe, but just sweating enough to cause embarrassment (especially as a teenager). Does this nessecarily mean i don't have enough salt?, because i take heaps! Also... i've tried every deoderant under the sun, still to know effect. A little too embarrassed to tell my doc. Its not a new thing, i've always sweated a little more than otehers, but i would like to get it fixed if possible. Is this cf-related? Could any drugs cause it? (though i don't think my meds have such side effects)Thanks for any replies, Tracey

i HATE that problem!!!! i sweat loads more than others, always have big patches on my clothes and it is so embarrassing! i find myself choosing clothes to buy with it in mind; some materials will show it up more than others, same with colours (ie black and white are better than bright colours when choosing a top to wear to a club for instance!!)i cant find an antiperspirant that works well either, at the moment i use dove and its the best i have found (UK, not sure if you have it in the US). am not sure if it is CF related or not but i share the problem!!! also, used to be REALLY paranoid about my "sweaty palms" although funnily enough since i have stopped panicking about it they are not half as bad!

i have that problem too. ive seen a vascular surgeon about a sympathectomy [cutting the sweat glands] and he doesnt think its a good idea as it will make the rest of my body sweat even more. thats if i had my face hands and feet done. now im thinking i should get my hands done. it gets worse every year. i now have to keep my hands off my clothes now otherwise i end up with a big handprint! and because we have more salt in our sweat my head gets all salt crusties, not a good look. there is a anti perspirant in australia called dri-clor. im not sure if its under the same name in the US. its just a deoderant with a VERY high amount of aluminium in it. ive had to stop using it though, as my skin has become very sensitive to it. it only worked under my arms anyway. i dont think the actual sweating is cf related, but the fact our sweat is thick and salty makes matters worse, eg your sweat doesnt evaporate as well as others.treatment available is iotonpheresis, dri-clor, surgery or certain types of medication. ive heard there is a low success rate with the meds and they can cause bad side effects. by the way iotonpheresis is where they place your foot in a bucket of water with an electrode, your hand to be treated on some cotton which has been placed in a special solution, this is then placed on another electrode and an electrical current is passed through your body. its perfectly safe, but it caused my hands to itch like hell. its also a big inconvenience. it has to be done several times a week at first and the sessions take up to 45 minutes!

Hi its me, Tracey again....Thanks for all your replies. I can certainly relate to needing to buy clothes in mind of my sweating... such as colours and material. I never buy tight fitting sleeved shirts either (i need a breeze near my arm pits for evaporation!). I live in Australia so i will try the dri clor... is it available at normal supermarkets? To the other replies, what is Dry Soland Gold Bond? Are those deoderants or medications or what? Any additional information would be great. Thanks alot again.... Tracey

dri clor is from pharmacies. i think its about 20 dollars? a good supermarket deoderant to use with dri clor is mitchum unscented. its the best regular deoderant ive tried and because it is unscented the smell wont mix with the sweat smell. i can remember in high school when girls with stinky armpits use to spray that impulse stuff all over them and the 2 smells would mix and the rooms would smell terrible!!!

Man I thought I was the only one!!!! For like over 6 years now I would have to change my shirts at least 3+ times a day. I'm so self concious about it...I can sweat through 2 t-shirts and a sweatshirt. I'm talking like giant size frizbee marks and I wouldn't even be doing anything strenuous. No deoderant works for me, but last week I bought Certain Dry and I have not sweat through 1 shirt in like 5 days. You roll it on before you go to bed and it works like 1-2 days. THis stuff is amazing...I can wear all the clothes I want now, before I had to wear like black and white because they don't show sweat marks as bad. Try this stuff guys, so far so good,emily21 pwcf
