Terrible teeth

Last night I broke a tooth in half. HALF!! This is far from the first time. My teeth chip, flake, break, and decay like nothing else! They are terrible! I am trying to convince my medical insurance carrier that this is the result of a medical condition so that they will pay to have my teeth replaced. I have wanted new teeth for years!! I want implants. I know that this is a result of malnutrition from CF, especially since I have always had trouble keeping my Vit D levels up, so I don't get enough calcium either. I'm sure some of the medications that I've taken over the years hasn't helped. What I need from you guys is any article or little shred of evidence that you have come across that supports what I already know! Help!

Would your CF doctor be able to help with this? I chipped a tooth once in college and I was so self conscious about it until I was able to get it fixed. I couldn't believe what one chipped tooth did for my self esteem and my inclination to smile, so I can understand your desire to get your teeth fixed.

If you can't get anything from your insurance, I would definitely talk to your dentist directly. A lot of times dentists and doctors will charge less if they know that the claim won't be going through insurance. My brother and his wife didn't have health insurance when they had my nephew, and they worked out a price at the hospital that was less than what it would have cost had it been billed through insurance.

I hope people are able to help on this one!

I dont know anything off the top of my head, but your doctor or at least the social worker at the CF clinic might have something in general or enough medical backup to possibly win an appeal to get your insurance to cover. For some reason I am thinking I saw something somewhere about this. I will look for it!

Jessi - I'm just like you! I've had my two front teeth root canaled and capped. I've had all of my wisdom teeth pulled due to decay and breaking apart. All of my molars need deep fillings because they are decaying and falling apart. My teeth hurt all the time and chip ALL the time. I brush my teeth daily, and nothing helps. I know that it has to do with my meds and CF, and wish I could get implants as well. I'm in the process of looking into it myself, but I'm not sure how much help my CF doc will be. I'd be interested to hear if anyone can be of help.
