The Patch (BC)

I am 38 female with CF. I live in Ontario Canada and I was wondering if the Patch is covered on benefits? I know BC is, but what about the patch? or how can I find out if it is or not?

I don't know how your insurance works there, but here in the states (FL to be exact) I have to get my docs office to call and pre approve the med. If I don't I have to pay full cost which is about $50. With the pre approval I pay a $30 copay. You should be able to call your insurance provider and ask what medications they cover - at least that is how our insurance works.

The patch is a very convenient hormonal birth control method but provides a higher dose of estrogen than pills or the Nuva Ring. The studies show that the risks of stroke and blood clots are increased because of this. See what your health care provider(s) think about this method for you. (I work in family planning and am very interested in contraception and CF).

I know that here in Manitoba the patch is covered simply because I need to use it because of CF. The patch here is in the same class as regular BC, so the government does cover it.
