thinking about getting a vest...

alright, well, i think i'm gonna get a vest *sigh*

from what i can tell, there is only one choice: (model 104) the full vest or the chest vest. i'm leaning toward the chest vest. i think i tried on the full vest in clinic once and it felt too much...i'm hoping the chest vest won't feel quite that bad. i know either one will take some getting used to.

right now i use the flutter twice a day and i have always loved my flutter. it does well for me and it is a breeze to take anywhere. is the vest really a pain in the butt to travel with? it sure looks like it would be. i guess i'm thinking that i may still use my flutter for traveling. do you guys who have the vest use it all the time? every day multiple times a day?

thanks for comments--

Mark has the model 104 and it really isn't that heavy to carry for travel and such. Sure, it's an extra bag to drag along but it's not over... oh i'd say about 10lbs or so. And as melissa said, often times you can call and say you'd like a different version of the vest part, and they will give both. Mark only has one, he doesn't like the full vest, but if you ever think you might want it just to have, they are pretty good about giving it to you. Hill-rom has been a great company to work with!!

amy, thanks! i wasn't able to find too much info on his website about the newest model, how it's different and how it comparest to the other ones. however, i spoke to my adult cf coordinator today and she said that the minnesota model isn't being widely used now either b/c it is still experimental or just because of distribution, i'm not sure. she is setting me up to try the 104 model next week, she says that the patients really like that one, it is a lot smaller than other other one, etc. so unless you have some extraordinary reason why i should try to get the newest one, i'll probably just do this. and by all means if you have reason let me know.

thanks,
laura

I luv the vest. Hence my sign on name, vestgirl. I used to
be a flutter girl myself and only use that. But I've seen a huge
difference ever since I got the vest. I huff while I'm doing my
vest and blow out as if I were doing PFT's. I use it three to four
times a day. I use the chest vest and I've learned that if you
increase the middle button which is the pressure, it helps to get
the goodies out in the lower air ways. Another awesome device is
the Acapella. I now use that in place of the flutter. I take both
the vest and the Acapella when I travel. But I do the Acapella in
the car. It works as the flutter does plus you can lay down
and use it. If you are looking for a good version, Hill-Rom is
a great company to get the vest from. There # is
1800-426-4224. Hope this helps.

We just received the RespriTech vest for Sarah about a week ago.
We have never had any type of vest before, so I don't have
anything to compare it to. The unit itself is about the size
of a computer CPU....but it comes with a padded bag, which has
pockets for the hoses and vest...no wheels on the
bag.

The hoses "clip" into place so they don't inadvertently
pop off (a problem some have mentioned with the HillRom).

I have been pleased with the customer service so far. When we
received the vest we called to set up our training session. I
was very excited to be able to start to use the vest. He
helped me over the phone to fit the vest for proper usage....and
then gave me his cell phone number so I could call him over the
weekend if I had any problems.

I could give you more info on the vest...if you are interested.
Just let me know the info you want. Anyway, good luck
making your decision.
a computer's CPU is it's central processing unit - or it's chip. (Intel, etc). Is that really the size?</end quote>

lol...no....You mean you don't speak the same computer language as my husband and I? lol....I'm referring to the case the CPU is in....sorry for the confusion!

It is about 13 inches tall, 13 inches deep and 8 inches wide.

Laura,

Thank you for taking a deep breath and sighing in relief. I recomend that you trial each one of the choices (there are only three (3)). Hill Rom, Respirtech, and Electromed. One is the Vest, the other is A breath of fresh air, and the third is Smart Vest. The thing you have to look at is what makes you feel comfortable, and which company makes you feel that way! Try the different products for a month (this is the best way to see if they are really interested in you, by letting you trial it). Then call the 800 number and just talk to the people there, and see which one makes you feel confident in there product. There web sites also help. www.thevest.com www.respirtec.com and www.electromed-usa.com

Good luck, and live happy!!!
