This could be a stupid question...

My daughter has been sick with a cold for two days. Last night her asthma was terrible on top of it b/c of the drainage. My question is, she's doing her 28 days of tobi right now, and has a week to go, and she does azithromycin three days a week - will, or should these antibiotics help fight off her cold any faster?

If its a cold then the med wont help with that because colds are viral.

What the tobi will do is help any infection from starting while her body is worn down from the cold.

The azithromyacin is more for inflammation factors rather then bacterial, but again it might help if something starts brewing during her run down phase. Depending on the infection.

Now she also might get through the cold without any infection brewing. I know for me that it always leads to an infection because the cold settles in my chest. With all that extra congestion I dont seem to have a choice. Maybe once it didnt......

Unfortunately whenever ds has gotten anasty upper respiratory infection, he's been on tobi, zithro & keflex and I've thought, how can he be sick, he's practically glowing with all the meds he's on... Sometimes they just need a little exta help. The zithro should help w/inflammation. I do the usual increase cpt and see how things go, sometimes have to call the doc if it's adeep, chesty cough.

I guess I understand what you're saying Melissa, I guess I was just hoping that it would help fight off the cold faster. I called the drs early in the morning, and they called in orapred for her to help with the asthma, but no abx, yet. It seems to have gone from a tight chesty persistent cough, to a more productive deep cough, which is good, I guess. I felt so bad for her today though, she sounded like she was about to cough out an alien! My husband and I both looked at her like "are you ok???" She just laughed though, and thought it was hilarious<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
