One thing that I know Kurt (he is my fiance and does NOT have CF) has mentioned to me as something he has seen and recognizes about me and CF is how it can regulate what I do.
Meaning this:
If a friend calls him up and says hey you want to go to such and such football game or to such and such place tonight, He says when are you going?. They say 5 minutes and he says yeah sure I will be waiting outside for you.
If a friend calls me up and says hey you to go to such and such football game or to such and such place tonight, I say when are you going? They say 5 minutes and I say I'd like to but I can't. I have to do 1 hr + worth of meds before I go, sorry.
Or imagine having to wake up 2 or 3 hours before school starts to get ready, so that you can do all of your meds to breathe and take care of yourself AND shower and get cleaned up.
Tell them what age you were told you would make it too. I had to speak for the local CFF chapter and it ended up being a majority of college aged people - so my age. I wasn't really sure they would get it, but I told them my parents were told I would be lucky to make it to 12. I have made it to 12 and then they were told I would never drive (make it to 16), then I would be lucky to graduate high school and so on, but because of the advancements made in large part due to the CFF I have surpassed every age I have been told I would not make it too. I know that seemed to hit home for them. There was a huge support from the kids my age at that event and I was completely shocked.
I hope that something in there helped. The first thing I have never used in a speech it is just something that Kurt has mentioned to me recently, but I am sure I will use it when I get the opportunity to speak again.
Good Luck with the speech.
