Tonsils out?

Hey guys,

I was wondering if you all could shed some light on what I should do.

I have this thing where when I get tired, I get a sore throat. It happens like clock work. I look in the mirror and I can see my tonsils enlarged.

I also have sinus issues. I have no doubt that the sore throat and sinus issues are related.

I do have an ENT that I saw last year. I talked to him about sinus surgery last year because I have polyps. But he said that he didn't like putting people with CF under because it is "bad for the lungs". He recommended just upping the sinus rinse and the nose spray. That seemed to work.

I hear of people my age (I'm 30) getting their tonsils out, but I feel like all CF doctors would totally not recommend getting this surgery. What are people's thoughts on tonsil and sinus surgery for people w. CF? Have any of you done it? If so , how "bad" does it have to be before you can get them just taken out?

Many thanks!

I don't have CF; however, I had chronically infected (cryptic) tonsils. They were enlarged, heavily scarred and full of tonsil stones. Basically they were full of infection. And when I'd get a particularly bad sinus headache, the next day my tonsils would be even more swollen and full of nastiness. So at the age of 34 I had a tonsilectomy. The recovering was tough, but wish I'd done it much sooner. Could breathe better, went from taking pain relieve on a daily basis, several times a day for sinus headaches to maybe one or twice a year.
