Tracking family CF

My parents have never been tested but I know I am a carrier of one gene mutation and my brother is a carrier of another(V754M). My daughter is positive with D-F508 and S492F. As for the rest of my family (sisters, aunts, neices, nefews and cousins) don't think they should (or don't want to) get tested. It seems to me if we want to really do something to prevent future disease in the world we should encourage our relatives to do the same. Just a thought. I know everyone is not going to be willing.<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif" border="0">

I have this issue with my family. Granted that my bros/sisters are much older so I was actually an Aunt before I was dx, but the other nieces/nephews came along after my diagnoses. The nieces/nephews are now having children of their own and to my knowledge no one was tested. I know that NY has the Newborn screening now, but that doesnt help BEFORE a pregnancy. I cant force them. I also believe with my family that for the most part I was "mild" or minimal issues that they knew of so it didnt seem as big of a deal. It has become more of reality to some of them as I go into the hospital more or am on iv's more. BUT since they dont live it daily they dont understand how bad things can get!

I think that information is power. I wish my nieces and nephew would all get gene tested. At the very least we know that they are carriers. But my ILs are all very religious and feel that if their kids know they are carriers they might consider aborting a pregnancy -- seems a bit of a stretch to me. But their kids are young, maybe they will encourage them to get tested as they get older and see all we go through with our daughter. I hope so!! But we can only suggest, ultimately its not our place to force it on them.

I agree, you think it would be the fisrst thing one would do when they become aware that there is c.f in the family. I Know I tell my older son who is ten that before he has children he insist that the other half be tested. I have not tested my older boy but would like to. I konw my neices and nephews dont grasp the concept of c.f nor do I think they care. My family has no history of c.f that there aware of, of course but its there though.

my mom's 9 brothers & sisteres won't get tested either. so i've got 26 cousins who have no clue if they carry the CF gene. families are weird sometimes...

my two older brothers have 4 kids between them, and they wont get tested done,my oldest brother keeps quoting the film 'Gothica'?. Now the thing is they are totally aware that there is a strong possibility that they are either carriers or that they are even like myself, two RH117 genes. My wife's younger brother on the otherhand, couldent get his 2 kids tested any quicker than they did.
