im not sure about both mrsa and cepacia, some hospitals are weird with a person having just one of those. i really hope you find one though.

I had mrsa and I believe capacia, though I'm not 100% sure on the last one... It's been awhile. But I had mine done at the transplant center in Dallas. -Candicea.k.a immortalgoddezz

Hi, Below is a list of centers that do Cepacia. I think that most do MRSA now, since so many patients are MRSA. Here are then centers that do them: 1.Univ. of Alabama at Birmingham 1-800-822-8816 x 58615( UAB has done onein the past, not sure what year, might be 1999. They did Dannon Baker -and you know that she died. My suggestion: Ask them, or have a supportperson ask them "Are you still interested in doing Cepacia patients?" Itis not so horrible if they have decided to not do them. It is a trickysurgery and I think anyone who had Cepacia would want the center theychoose to be good at it, have success and have some good stats behindthem. You don't want to choose a center that does not meet yourstandards. Also as far as lawsuit - do you really want to stick with thisteam after the treatment you have had? Do you want to stay with this teamafter tx, do you trust them? Won't other misgivings arise? You are withyour tx team forever, do you think the rapore or the communication willbe one of honesty and trust after a lawsuit or "convincing" them to takeyou back?" ) 2.Duke University Medical Center, Durham, North Carolina - 1-800-249-5864(Duke has done a number of Cepacia. Off hand I don't have the number orthe success rate. When you contact them, ask "how many have you done?" "what is the survival rates for these Cepacia patients?" "what treatmentsdo you take if the patient should get cepacia after surgery?" The onlynote I will add here is that I have been told that Duke Tx team will tellyou "We are the only team in NC that does Cepacia". This is not true sotake that with a grain of salt. I think Duke should know that UNC doesCepacia, if they don't realize it, let them know! LOL ) 3. Univeristy of North Carolina Hospitals Chapel Hill, Chapel Hill, NorthCarolina 1-888-263-5293 ( the surgeon at UNC Dr. Thomas Egan has themost experience with Cepacia CF tx. I believe he has done approximately30(?). I think this may be the most any center in the world has done. Healso has a very high success rate with CF and CF cepacia. When youcontact them, ask "how many Cepacia have you done?" "what is thesurvival rate?" "what treatment do you use if the patient should getcepacia again?") 4) University Hospital Cleveland, Cleveland, Ohio 1-216-844-3947- (Theirlung tx program just started in 1998, I am not sure how many Cepacia theyhave done, but they say they do it. Be sure to ask the same 3 questionsof this team "how many Cepacia have you done?" "what is the survivalrate?" "what treatment do you use if the patient should get cepaciaagain?") 5) Children's Hospital of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, Wisconsin -1-414-266-6458 ( This hospital is affiliated with Univ. of Wisconsin. -somehow I think if the Childrens' hospital does Cepacia that the Univwould also. But you need to ask. Not sure of the program start date. Askthose questions: "how many Cepacia have you done?" "what is the survivalrate?" "what treatment do you use if the patient should get cepaciaagain?") 6) University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania1-800-533-8762 (I am not sure the number of cepacia this center has done, but I think they have been doing it for a number of years - I would guessunder 10 they have done. Ask the questions: "how many Cepacia have youdone?" "what is the survival rate?" "what treatment do you use if thepatient should get cepacia again?") 7) Baylor University Medical Center, Dallas TX - 1-800-422-9567 (This isa new addition to my list. The note I have from them says for Cepacia, they will evaluate each case individually. Ask the questions: "how manyCepacia have you done?" "what is the survival rate?" "what treatment doyou use if the patient should get cepacia again?") 8. I wanted you to know of another hospital which will consider B. cepaciaCFadults on a case-by-case basis.Sentara Norfolk General Hospital600 Gresham DriveNorfolk, Virginia, 23507757-668-2831Dr. A.R.
