Tune Ups

Sorry if I am not politically correct but come on that is what it is if you ask me. I wasn't sick when I went in to hospital but PFTs were down. I know the risk of catching something in the hospital but I thought that it is necessary to go in if your lungs are telling you a different story than how you feel.

If you let your PFT's go down to far will you be able to recover as good, if you had just gone in for a tune up? Has anyone declined from not going in and treating aggressively when PFTs go down (what is it, 500ml)?
