Vanc Can Cause Kidney Failure

<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-mad.gif" border="0"> I went in the hospital for the usual tune up. I was put on Tobra, Zoysn, and Vanc. This is the usual setup for my antibiotics. This admission was very different. They did the usual Vanc drug levels and they were way above normal. After that they started checking my kidney functions. My kidney functions were way above normal. They were in the life threatening levels. I ended up having to go through 4 days of dialysis. My kidney functions did turn around and they are normal now. I was wondering if anyone has been through this?

I haven't had to do the dialysis, but my levels have gone up some in the hosp. Whenever you're on IVs you just gotta hydrate the hell out of yourself. Sorry you had to go through that.

When I have been dehydrated it has knocked so many things out of wack. When you are on so many meds (whether it be iv or not) your body needs to flush the toxins associated with all of it & if you arent hydrated enough or remain hydrated enough your body is going to respond. I have never had to be on dialysis and hopefully never will. I also know that my doctors tend to "overdo" the blood work on checking different levels/things with me. I have had some nasty reactions to meds before. Even ones that I have used for years and respond well to. My body needs to be handled with gentle gloves at times and its hard to keep up with the feelings/symptoms on my own so I rely heavily on testing.

I had a very similar situation because of too much Tobra. While it's one of the only drugs my infection reacts to, unfortunately I can no longer take it.
