Hey Guys,

Just wanted some advice, I seem to have some type of asthma wheezing thing going on, I am on nebs every 4 hours now and I am waiting for my CF nurse to email me back tomorrow.... but I started yesterday with a bad cough, that caused me to throw up.

Now all day today at least 3-4 times I have coughed so hard and couldn't catch my breath that I just vomited without any notice.. I just cough, gasp for air and puke..

Any Ideas to calm the coughing down, when I do the albuterol that I am doing it opens me up , I cough tons up but it throws me back into spasm and I start all over again

Thanks for help

When I get to the point of coughing that hard, I do a breathing technique I learned called the "4-count breathing box." It's a way of breathing deeply and steadily that gets you to calm down by having you focus on the breathing and nothing else. Here's how it works:

breathe in using your diaphragm and lower muscles as you count 1...2...3...4
Hold the breath and concentrate on how it feels in your expanded lungs as you count 1...2...3...4
Blow the air out slowly through your mouth like you would blow on a spoonful of soup to cool it off 1...2...3...4
Hold yourself steady and empty as you count to 1...2...3...4

Usually by the time I've done this 4 or 5 times, I'm much more relaxed and the tickle in my throat has subsided. Good luck!
