Hailey got approved for diasbility. She has medicaid effective today. I need to thank all of the tobacco users of Colorado. The new tobacco tax went to funding for medicaid for children with disabilities. When we applied last year we were told there was a 5 yr waiting list. Thanks to the funding of the tobacco tax she has it now. I am so thankful. This is the best new sI have heard in a long time(besides Julies babies) Just thought I would share the good news.

That is such wonderful news!!!! I think everyone with CF deserves medical coverage and supplemental assistance, it's a freaking expensive disease. It is so good to hear.

brilliant news you have.
In Scotland we get disability allowance for our boy, we only had to
wait 6 weeks for it, and then its paid out, almost automatically
There are different levels,we were lucky enough to get the top
allowance, felt a bit guilty getting it , but there again, better
in our pocket than in the governments pocket.
Here in Australia, CF is not classified as a disability. So therefore we don't get any disabilty allowance/coverage.
Although you sre entitled to a health care card, which makes prescription medicatopn cheaper. ie: 5 bottles of creon 5= $120, but with health care card it equates to $4.60. That's a big saving.

It is ironic that the smokers are paying for her healthcare. The nice thing about it is that when she turns 18 she will be eligible for SSI since we already got her disability status. This program that she is on is perfect for those that make too much for SSI but still need help paying medical bills

This may sound stupid, but what exactly does medicaid pay for that insurance does not? We have been fortunate that my husband's insurance has covered all doctors bills and tests done, and right now my son is in the Wee Care program so we do not pay for vitamins and enzymes. But, after his second birthday we will have to start paying for the enzymes. How expensive is this stuff? I am just thinking maybe for the future we should look into medicaid.

Medicaid will cover EVERYTHING unless it nees an prior authoriztion then you may have to try the generic first! also if you dont make to much money you could still carry your insurance and then have medicaide as secondary that way everything will be picked up even if your insurance dosent cover it!!

The medicaid will cover anything that your primary insurace dosen't. Last year after our ins paid we still had $7,000 out of pocket. Medicaid will cover the rest of her copays and I won't have all of the out of pocket any more.
