Have you tried eliminating dairy products from your diet? Are you overweight or just bloated? Ask your MD if you can substitute soy milk for regular milk and try cutting out cheese (if your doctor approves). Why does your doctor think you are gaining weight? When my child was malabsorbing, she had an enormous appetite. She feels and looks better on more enzyme, less fat and no dairy.

in cf the malabsorbtion is normal and in many many cases so is the big tummy that makes you look pregnant. some people just have a hard time getting rid of the big tummy. i have heard its not really fat that makes the tummy big its just really bloated....like the kids you see on tv in third world countries that have nothing to eat. another cause of the tummy can be not the right balance of things in your diet. you do need some fat.....don't take this to mean any fat i mean good fats like nuts. follow what your doctors tell you to do they know best. the ones to really talk to is the dietician at the cf clinic they can even know more about what you should be eating than the doctors because thats what they specialize in (i say sometimes). is it possible you are not taking enough enzymes to digest your food so it can be absorbed? or not eating enough...i saw that you said you didn't take enzymes for a while which makes me believe that you have had good pancratic sufficiency so its good to remember that when you start to become pancreatic insufficient that you sometimes have to eat twice as much to absorb the nutrients you need. you said you are gaining weight...do you have scales at home and you see your self gaining or is it you think you are gaining because your tummy is bigger.....sorry i sound so dumb i am just trying to understand your post better. some people have a dairy allergy. these are sneaky because it doesn't have to be like a regular allergic reaction that makes you swell and sick....most dairy allergies are making you bloat, have heart burn and even making mucus thicker. also dairy does affect people differently allergy or not. some people are not bothered by it and some are regarding to weight gain and even the mucus thing. have you talked to your doctor more in deepth about it. make him or the dietician sit down with you and figure out a diet or maybe an enzyme change that can possibly help.
