My son is 4 years old. He has kept infections nonstop forever. The doctors keep him on antibiotics, steroids, breathing treatments, decongestants, etc. The have run xrays after xrays.............and have chalked it up to asthma set off by allergies. He also has issues with oily stools. And now has something coming out of his little booty......I was thinking just hemroids until I started researching on the internet. What are you thoughts? Should I ask his pediatrician do test him for CF?

Absolutely! It almost sounds like he may have rectal prolapse - not a huge deal, but you should really have his hiney checked out and push for CF testing....

Absolutely, I would want this looked into. What kind of dr has been following his respiratory issues- just his ped, or has he seen a pulmonologist? He has a lot going on and it definitely bears more thorough investigation before just continuing so much medication. Some more questions for you...

1/has he had allergy or asthma testing?

2/does the pediatrician know about the oily stools? This is not normal for a child and is generally considered a red flag for further testing, especially in combination with frequent respiratory illness.

3/does the pediatrician know about the 'something' protruding from his bottom? This is not necessarily an emergency but DOES need to be looked into, and sooner rather than later. This is especially the case if you see a lot coming out and/or it's not all going back inside when he's done stooling.

4/ how is his weight gain? Is he maintaining his curve on the growth charts? Any other digestive issues?

I would ask the pediatrician to refer your son to a CF center for an appt & testing (you probably have one in a major medical center or Children's hospital near you.) It's very important he get the testing at a CF center lab; they are the ones that do enough of the sweat tests to get the most accurate results.

I hope you find answers soon for your child. It's hard when there are worrisome things going on and you don't yet know why.
