last year i signed up for great strides only to realize that i cannot attend because i culture cepacia. i thought about trying to collect donations from people anyway, but i didn't feel like explaining why i wouldn't be able to walk to everyone. does anyone have any ideas on what i should do? maybe i could get a group of people together to walk on a separate, approximately equal, and on the same day, as the great strides walk. ???

Have your own walk/get together. Or you could just tell people you send donation requests that you're participating in the walk. You're participating by soliciting funds. We've got a couple people on our team who've signed up and then realized they have conflicts, but they're still fundraising. If someone asks them about the walk, they just plan to say it was great, we raised XX number of dollars.

similar to what Liza said.. I have what I call "virtual" walkers. You are more than welcome to be a virtual walker on my team. They solicate funds but don't come to the walk. Hey I might even have to be a virtual walker with the pregnancy if I'm not up for going that day I won't be going. This is unlikely though because I feel great and am excited for the walk. I might not walk the 6K though but I will be cheering from the sidelines. After the walk I put together one of those onetruemedia.com videos. You can have someone snap pictures of you walking and we could add them to the video if you chose to be on my team.

Or create your own team and have others go out in your honor and you can walk "virtually" in another location or not even at all. It's not about the walking, it's about raising money. Good for you thinking of how you can still be involved :)

we call it 'angel walking' I have people do it every year for one reason or another. You do everythin gbut the physical walking. You can still send out letters etc you could even say you are participating instead of 'walking'. You could send a family member to walk in your place if it made you feel better but I dont think its necessary.
