what kind of car do you have?

We are in the market for a new car. One of my main concerns is air quality in the car. I am sure that is number one on everyone's list when buying a new car......can you sense my sarcasm. Anyway, a lot of the new cars have fancy air filtration systems. We are looking at the Hyundai which has the air filtration and some kind of ionization system that prevents mold.

What kind of car do you have? Does anyone drive and like the Hyundai? I was also thinking of a few tips for car salesman to sell to CFers.......feel free to add:

digital display of current pollen count
automatic window lock system when pollen count is too high
a couple of electical outlets powerful enough to plug in the vest or compressor
O2 that drops from the ceiling like in a plane flight....just in case I am feeling SOB that day

Well, a decent filter on the fresh air intake can't hurt - my car has one. But here's the thing: how clean do you keep your car interior? Our's is a regular kid-limo so there's all kinds of debris all over it most of the time.

Anyway, if you end up with a car with a filter of some sort be sure to change it every year right after pollen season so you aren't filtering air through pollen for the rest of the year.

Most cars have some kind of a filter on the ducted cabin air. Most people don't even know they have it and as a result never clean/change it.

I'd be wary of any ionization system as they create ozone.

Honestly the best car for a CFer would have vinyl seats and a rubber floor but I'm guessing you aren't in the market for a pick-up.

If you're worried about mold in your ducts, you (and everyone for that matter) should always run just the fan for a minute after you use the AC. AC systems create condensate in the ducts. When you pull in the driveway and shut off your car that condesate simply sits there and allows mold to grow. Running the fan with the AC off for a minute helps to disipate the condensate in the ducts. This info is included in the owners manuals of most new vehicles but people rarely read those.

Truly, cabin air quality should be the least of your concerns. All the toxic gas created by the plastic/synthetic materials in cars are the real danger.

Also, do you ever just drive with the windows down? After all that air is unfiltered.

BTW... Have you considered buying American? There are people in this country counting on you to save their jobs.

before you go buy a hundai, or kia for that matter as they are owned by the same company, go talk to a machanic you trust about them, more than likely it will change your mind about buying one, like most things you get what you pay for, until you are repairing it, then you pay way too much for still mediocore parts.
i don't know about filteration in car airconditioner but i think that if you just keep it on recirculated air you should be ok. i agree on the whole buy american, not just because of saving an american auto workers job, but because i honestly think that ford especially makes a superior product in the larger vehicle market, can't speak for the small/compact market.
