Why they are bad? Leads to the production of more mucus to fight the irritation and/or infection, which just compounds the problem.
Symptons of exacerbation also can include coughing up a thick (hard) sticky mucus. Sometimes it looks like your coughing up little mucus rolls (hard shaped tubes) or big hard mucus clumps (similar to dried nose mucus)
