Hello all:

I would like to get some feedback from all you older CFers who are being seen at the CF Clinic at Stanford U. California.

I am considering transferring there and would like to find out how you all feel about the quality of care and staff.

Do they respect and support the use of alternative treatments such as Neprinol, Glutathione, Mannitol, Colloidal Silver, Acupuncture etc?

Thanks sincerely!!

I went to Stanford for four years before I came to college, However I was at the pediatric clinic. They are great there though. They just built a new clinic seperate from the hospital that is really nice and convient. Whenever I was there the doctors were very accomodating and seemed to be open to you making the decisions about your care, oppossed to just telling you what you should be doing.

Also I had to go into the adult hospital this past summer and it was great. They got me in and out in less then 24 hours. They were very understanding about the fact that I was there simply to get my picc line put in and start my IV antibiotics and they did eveything they could to make the process as speedy as possible... casue really who wants to sit in the hospital any longer then you have to.

I believe Mary is the nurse coordinator for the adult clinic and she was great in helping me out this summer.

All in all Stanford has always given me great treatment at both the pediatric and adult hospital. And from my point of view they were definatly open to new treatment ideas and allowing you to make the decisions about your care.

Hope this helps

Thanks for your reply!! I am glad you found Stanford to be a good place for treatment!!

I am hoping to get several more adults to respond to my inquiry.

I was at my clinic checkup yesterday and learned from the social worker that Stanford is no longer allowing their doctors to accept gifts and meals from drug companies. This is encouraging!!

A program on NPR that aired this past summer said that the average value of gifts and cash that doctors receive from drug companies is $13,000 a year. Thats the national average for all doctors. You can imagine how some doctors might be influenced by this.

My current clinic's staff has changed radically over the past year and a half and the new doctors have been pushing the use of a wide variety of drugs on me since thay took over. It is a dramatic departure from the hands off if you are doing well attitude the old staff had.

Thanks again for your feedback!
