Won't stop licking himself

Okay, M is low IQ and has major sensory issues. He won't eat salt at all, we're trying to teach him to like it but fostermom wouldn't let him have it, so its an uphill battle. For now, I keep him on Gatorade for salt replacement as well as fluids (he was using to drinking coke all day).

But, he licks himself constantly. He likes the salty taste. But...um...its weird, and it pegs him as having something wrong in his cabeza when he's sitting in public licking himself.

Is there anything I can do to get him to stop licking all over his body? A salt block perhaps?

Fortunately for us, DS likes sprinkling salt on his tongue or on his CLEAN hand and licking it off. He has his own salt shaker and will sprinkle salt on his food -- last night it was cookies, night before apple jacks -- bleah. He also likes pretzel sticks.

Last summer, when I would make him some kool-aid after preschool, I'd put a dash of salt in it.

Sounds like a habit... DS would lick is lower lip last winter, then it'd get raw, which would make him lick it even more. Drove me bonkers...

Oh, and yes... I've considered a salt lick <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
