I AM 20 I USED TO HAVE A JOB THAT I LOVED BUT SINCE THE START OF THE YEAR I HAVE NOT BEEN WORKING DUE TO THE FACT I GET TO MANY INFECTIONS I WAS JUST WONDERING DO AND OTHER CFERS FIND IT DIFFICULT TO WORK FROM JO<img src="i/expressions/heart.gif" border="0">

Yes, I was working for Farmers Insurance and could not keep the job b/c when I missed work b/c I was sick or I got put into the hospital for two weeks and then home for a week or 2 w/ home Iv's thats when it all became a problem.

I am 31...and have worked since I was 18. There are times when it is hard to work. I miss alot...but luckily I have a good boss when it comes to days off. I dont get paid for them however...which makes it difficult. Lung wise I'm doing ok...but I have had many sinus problems ongoing now for the last 6 months. I have missed alot of work because of this...and probably will miss quite a bit more because they are talking about another sinus surgery which could keep me out of work for close to a month. I miss alot of work...but am too healthy to get any type of medical help...makes it bad. Good luck to you...you are still young and have time to find a good boss! Take care!

I started working when I was 16. I worked at a veterinary hospital, I started out cleaning kennels and went to school to be a vet tech. I loved it, I had never worked anyplace other than at a vet hospital. Although 1 1/2 years ago I had to quit. I went on O2 and could not keep going at that pace - picking up and restraining animals, being on my feet all day, running back and forth. I was so depressed. So many people hate their jobs and I LOVED mine, but I had to quit. I know I won't be able to go back to it after a transplant because of all the possible infections I could get working with birds, etc. I do work now part time in an office sitting at a computer. I usually do my IV's at home anyway, so I can just bring them into work with me if I have to. I do miss some work with all my doctors appts., but thankfully my boss is pretty understanding. Most people are understanding, I tell them about my illness and limitations up front, so they are not blindsided when I want all this time off. Good luck to you.

i made the decision not to work 2 years ago. employers are understanding for a little while but they soon lose their patience when it comes to having to take time off work etc. if my health wasnt up and down on a daily basis id consider working, but for the past couple of years my health changes from day to day [not from month to month] so its hard to tell when im going to be sick. im actually just starting to get back into doing nails [im a beauty therapist/nail tech] and im going to work from home and have a small client base. this way i can still work when i am sick [nails = sitting down] and there are no employers to anger if i have to take time off. im starting to get pretty bored doing nothing <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">

martha ive always wanted to be a vet/vet nurse. i always get annoyed when i think about how i wasnt able to. but sometimes i think 'well if i did pass everything, would i really be able to handle the work at this present time?' and the answer is no, so i dont feel so bad. i know what you mean about loving your job. i dont know any person in the vet industry who hates their job. animlas put a <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> on your dial!

When I was working for Farmers Insurance my boss knew about my CF and that sometimes I need off for my app. and when I get hospitalized b/c my mother and his wife used to work together for the passed 15 years. He was ok with all that but about 4 months later it did not work out. I got put in and when I came back I only had a job for about 3 weeks and then I was fired. He waited 3 weeks b/c he felt bad and did not want to do that b/c he knew it was hard for me to find work and keep it. So I have not worked sinse then. I wish I could find someone like your boss. Sometimes I think about opening my own business.

Kylie,
Does the nail polish/removers, etc ever cause you to cough or do you ever notice that the fumes bother you in any way?
That would be a neat profession to do and like you mentioned, one you could do even if you weren't feeling the best.

the nail polish fumes i can handle as they arent out for long but acrylic fumes i cant. the fumes give me headaches and nausea if there isnt enough ventilation so i do gel nails which is a great alternative and i wear a mask when doing filing.
