Would like to get the Respirtech Vest

I guess I feel sort of guilty about this...my daughter (4)already has a Hill Rom Vest. We like it fine, although it annoys us that the tubes fall off all the time and she can't plug them back in herself and also it kinda stinks that it can't be programmed BUT the real reason why we would like a Respirtech Vest is that it sounds like it does a better job. We have read Warwick's info on it.

Sooooo, while we feel fortunate to have the Hill Rom, we would really like to have "the best" for our girl and now seems like a good time bc we just switched insurance and she is on a plan through the state that covers all CF expenses. We may not qualify for this next year (due to income guidelines) so we would like to take "advantage" of the good coverage while it lasts (our prior coverage was not very good, so this is nice even if it is for a short time). I guess I am embarressed to ask our CF doctor to write a prescription for another vest and worried that her opinion of us will change (raking the system) and that she might even say "no".

Anyone else have experience with this type of situation? Advice or thoughts?

Thanks!

The doctor should have no problem writing a new script...and if he/she does, I would be a bit concerned. You SHOULD want the best care for your daughter as should the CF doc. Ask!!

First, I would share what you have read about Warwick's model with your doctor. Ask for her or his opinion of it. Explain your concerns and just openly, and together reach a desision. I know what you mean about wondering if the dr.s opinion of you will change...but, remember, they likely see LOTS of different people with very different attitudes about what they are "entitled" to. The doctor will proably just bve impressed that you KNOW that there are options and you are researching the best for your daughter.

I am also wondering what Hill-Rom model you have. Ours is programmable, and very easy to proram, too. And, Emily loves to plug the hoses in by herself (she's 18 months and cant quite get them in all the way, but she gets pretty close...now, if I could get her to leave them IN during treatment.....). We jsut got it a few weeks ago...maybe you are due for a new Hill-Rom, since there are updates, and if that's the case, maybe it is the perfect time to try something else?

Kukdos to you for going after the best. Good luck!

I agree with Lisa. If the vest you have isn't top notch and your daughter could be doing better with a newer version, you deserve a better one, and your doctor I think would agree.

On hesitate on these matters as well, but talking with your doctor really helps because they're usually on the same page as you are.
