Xopenex causing irregular heartbeat?????

About an hour after I do the 1.25mg Xopenex, i notice an
occasional fluttering in my chest. I checked my pulse myself,
and every minute or so my heart seems to skip a beat. I checked the
side effects of Xopenex, and sure enough irregular heartbeat was on
the list. Should I stop using this???

Definitely get in touch with the doctor. I am not sure if any damage can be done from an irregulr heart beat, but since its not "normal", I would check in with them. Better safe then sorry!

Xopenex is an isomer of albuterol. It's supposed to have less heart-related side effects, but they aren't eliminated 100%. But you would get the side effect during the treatment or right after. 1 hour post dose doesn't sound related to me.

Many other things can cause the heart to skip a beat including other meds you are taking, anxiety, or it can be idiopathic.

Call your doc right away I would suggest.

it starts almost immediately after i start xopenex and lasts for 30
mins to an hour. Its not serious...but when i checked my pulse I
could feel that about every min or two the beat would skip once or
twice. After an our the symptoms are gone. I'm calling the Clinic
and considering lower the dose.

I get the same thing sometimes. I used to get it worse with straight albuterol, now with Xopenex I do better.
I have what's called PAC (premature atrial contraction--I'm not sure if the last word is correct). Anyway, it's where I have a delayed heart beat and when that delayed beat happens close to the next heart beat, I feel a little flutter sensation in my heart. I've been told it's nothing to worry about, but it is disconcerting when this happens & it seems that stress brings it on more.....maybe coincidence, maybe not?
Does this sound like what you have? Next time you have this happen, ask the doctor to let you wear a halter heart monitor for 24 hours so they can see what's going on. It's just nice to have an explanation sometimes for what is happening with our bodies.
I may add that even when my heart is 'doing it's thing' I still keep up on my treatments because to me breathing easier is worth putting up with the irregular heart beats.
Let me know what you find out & please feel free to PM me if you have questions.
