I'm a 39 (almost 40!) year old with double delta f508s (plus an extra weird one). Every single person I know, with CF or without, has to do this 17-19 year old craziness. It's got to be hard on you parents to feel like all your years of hard work are down the drain, but I assure you, they...
My doctor told me (I'm 39 w/CF and PI) that CF cholesterol levels are usually pretty good. He said that's because, like protein, we don't absorb the cholesterol from our food, either. My numbers have always been on the low end.
I find yoga extremely effective for opening up my lungs. My teacher knows my issues, and is able to tailor her lessons so that I get the best stretching I can. Good luck!
I'm 39, and about three years ago, same thing--BAM! After desperately struggling to get my weight up to 120 my whole life, suddenly I am 145! Happy in one way, not so much in another because I don't feel healthy. I passed healthy-feeling at about 130-135 lbs. So now I'm eating less, and boy...
I am 39, and have had chronic CF-related arthropathy for many years. This causes incredible joint pain in every joint. When not managed, I find it crippling. However, I take Neurontin (an off label use is arthritis) and use compression gloves...
Hi, Cali, I'm a 39-year-old with good numbers and an up and down experience of exercise. Does your school offer yoga? That has helped me keep my hand in to strength training. Also, CF is a marathon not a sprint, so don't worry that this is the end of everything. Maybe you try some yoga and...
Hi, I agree with many of the thoughts here. I went to St. Christopher's in Philadelphia until I was 22, then bounced around the country and ended up back in Philly at University of Pennsylvania (for adult care). Both of my Philly hospitals were great.
I'm 39, though, and if there's one...
Hi, I'm a 39 year old with CF, and I think there are certainly lots of ways to strengthen the immune system. Vitamins, exercise, enough weight, exercise, a low stress life, exercise, rest, exercise...
I also think taking your son out of school is unsustainable. My mother, who is British...
The percentage is useful because over the years (for CFers as well as non-CFs) your lungs' volume goes down. And the percentages take your age into account. So when you see that your FEV1 is, say, 60% now, and was 60% ten years ago, you're doing pretty much the same even if the liters has...
Hey, all. My throat stuff comes from two sources--sinus issues and reflux. For the one, I do sinus rinsing (NeilMed) and I've had a bunch of surgery, and for the other, I use acid reducers. The reflux feels like it's from my chest/stomach, and the sinus issues feel more like a tickle. Good...
