    EXTREMELY low FEV1

    My daughter is 9 and pft's are 47. She does anything she wants to do but sometime it takes her a little bit to catch her breath.

    strep pneumonia

    My daughter has cultured it a few times. She never responds to oral antibiotics for anything she cultures so we always have to end up doing IV meds...that is not to say your son will not respond. I hope the best for you both.

    How much school do your kids miss?

    Chey misses the occassional day here and there. She goes into the hospital every three months for two weeks and then is on home IV's for 3-5 more weeks. So in Sept, Dec and March she is out at anywhere from 3-7 weeks depending on IV schedule. She misses tons of school. I worry as she gets older...

    throat culture vs sputum culture

    Cheyenne still cant cough anything out far enough to spit it in a cup. Our clinic doesnt do throat swabs. They do suctions instead. We have one done at every clinic visit..once a month, unless she is on IV's.
