I had a port placed in my upper arm when I was in the 9th grade. I was going in the hospital about once maybe twice a year for tune-ups at that point, but I didn't want my arm getting continually scarred up from piccs, so I asked for a port. I also didn't want one in my chest at that time b/c I...
You can remain covered on your parents' insurance as a "disabled dependent". You shouldnt have any problems qualifying for that. Id have your parents contact their insurance and find out what needs to be done for that. There is no age limit for that. Your parents will obviously have to keep...
Thanks for the ideas! I used to do swim team, so I have trouble going slow in a pool -- but I may give it another whirl and try to take it easy! I've started some resistance training with bands so we'll see how that goes.
You can also request extra "ice bricks". I'm in AZ right now, when I am having medicine shipped I usually tell the company they are allowed to leave it at the door, but to put in extra ice bricks. Everything has always been nice and cold when I get home -- even sitting in AZ heat. <img...
I've been doing pulm rehab for about a month, trying to get my lung function up and everything feels soooo slow. They are really cautious about moving up exercise. So they've been gradually nudging me up but again it feels so incredibly slow. Perhaps I'm being impatient...
I was wondering if...
I need visitors in the hospital. Unless I'm feeling really terrible, seeing people helps energize me. Plus my friends all know enough that they just will talk "at" me while I'm doing a breathing treatment or often visit just so we can watch a movie together. <img...
I have CFRD and problems gaining weight. As far as diet, my diabetic doctor told me that because with CF weight is such an issue that they were not going to restrict or change my diet, and I control the numbers by carb counting. I have a ratio of 1 unit of insulin to 25 grams of carbs, so when I...
Umm, you can tell people you are a germaphobe and do not touch people. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> (Note: I'm not actually calling you one, but that might be a successful way to approach that issue)
Hi! I moved from FL to AZ and am now moving back to FL again to be with family. As far as allergies, it all depends on the person. There are just different allergens in the desert, but they are still there. I live in Phoenix, and the air quality is often very poor. I don't know what part you...
I would ask your doctor about Actigall. In what I've read about it in the past, it is unclear how exactly is helps with liver cirrhosis, but it does. I don't know if it is more clear now as to its exact role, but you can always ask if the doc thinks it is something you should start. Good luck!

I've had elevated liver enzymes for a while. I started on Actigall (or some version of that) when I was in about 4th grade. I can't remember my last blood work results, but my liver enzymes have plateaued out for a while now. They remain elevated but have pretty much held steady since high...

As a side note, I would imagine the need for more drugs than what is "normal" could be caused by the amount of strong drugs we take on a frequent basis, rather than being CF specific.
