    I recently had sharp shooting pains, esp when i ate, in upper tummy area. Felt like knife stabs.     emotional coughing

    Strange but true. It's probably different for everyone but yes, a whole range of emotions can trigger it for me. I can hear some exciting/shocking news, and within a minute without doing anything physical, I have a coughing 'attack'.
