If it helps at all to say.... even if your child does have CF there is a pretty good chance he will out live you and your wife! I know of very many people with CF in their 60's and one who just turned 76 ! And they lived through a lot of years without correct...

Just as Heather said... I too believe newborn screening do not test for genes at all, rather markers... there is a specific false negative rate but I do not remember what it is.
The only thing that is going to give you close to 100% accuracy will be complete genetic testing... and even that is...

First off... there is no such thing as "the more common genes" The Delta F508 is the only gene that is seen in any prevalence at all... there are 1561 genes identified...screenings are just that... a screening so be careful what you ask for -- you will want full genetic testing, not another...
