I would defiantly follow through with the GI stuff though, maybe you will get a doctor there who is willing to pursue things again, if nothing else you really need to know if he could benefit from enzymes.
I would also look for any opportunity you might be given to see if he has he vas deferins...

As everyone else has already said -- yes, it all sounds very common and yes it is very good that the doctors are following through -- I know it doesn't sound that great at the moment, but to have a doctor agree to give full genetic testing is very very helpful... many parents agonize...
