1st Clinic Consultation Visit on Monday

We are heading to our prenatal CF Clinic Consultation visit in Atlanta at Emory's Children's Center tomorrow morning. I am armed with my list of questions for Abby...THANK YOU ALL!!! I feel more prepared than I would have otherwise!!!

My mom is going with me and Lucy...to keep Lucy entertained and to interject questions she might think of as a medical professional herself.

Lucy will be tested for CF (cheek swab) at the visit.

Wow...time has flown since I made the appointment on June 9.

Thank you all for your thoughts, prayers, and support. I'm expecting to leave with more questions than answers; however, I need this visit to really get a handle on things for Abby, to get some answers for my own sanity, especially about Lucy. I think it will be good for me!

Thanks again for everything!!! It may be Tuesday before I post what we learned at the visit, but I'll keep you posted (no pun intended)!!

Good Luck with the visit tomorrow. I do hope you get all your current questions answered and that the visit goes well. I am happy for you that you will have the support of your mother also. That should help greatly.

Take Care,

Both of my kids had the cheek swab done and they didn't get enough cells to complete the test on either one. The nurse told me that she would have had to brush pretty hard to get enough cells. Just wanted to let you know. If you should decide to go the blood test route, they have some numbing cream that they can put on her arm so she won't feel the prick. Good luck tomorrow, hope you get some answers!

I didn't know you were planning the cheek swab ~ just my two cents ... but if it were me, I'd ask for the blood draw. I don't know for sure, but it just seems to me to be more accurate and if making another trip to the clinic would be difficult (don't remember how far you have to travel)

Also ask about being able to find the specific genes in Lucy - since you already know what genes Abby has, it stands to reason that Lucy (if she has them) will have the same two genes. So my question would be are they sure they will find them (if they are there) in a cheek swab test.

Not sure if there are Wiegerts in New York from this bunch. Will look into it and let you know. I married in, so I'm still getting to know folks...and 98% of them live in the upper midwest, so I just don't know! :)
