2- or 3-week course of (IV) antibiotics

Laura-My docs believe that stopping antibiotics prematurely before they have done their job is a big no no that leads to resistance. If I am not back up to baseline (according to PFT's and feelings and level of sputum I am getting up) then I have to do a 3rd week. If it was a bad bout for you I would definately think going for a 3rd week is better safe than sorry. Otherwise, you might end up with a residual lingering infection that catches up with you again in a month or so. This is just my opinion based on my case and my docs. So they dont see you every week when on antibiotics??

So sorry you are not feeling well!!! Personally I do a 2 week IV treatment and then I need a week to get back to my baseline. I need the drugs out of my system and I need to start exercising again. So, for me I am not feeling my general normal self till after the 2 weeks are done and then after the 1 week has passed and I have had time to clear the drugs out of my body and more importantly EXERCISE.

My doctor has told me that if by 2 weeks your not feeling better any longer is not going to make that big of difference. Not sure if I totally believe that but that is waht he has said.

I personally really need the 2 weeks and then gotta get the drugs OUT of my body and exercise before I feel any benefits from a tune up!

Hope that helps!!! Stay well and cool, I see it is steamy in your area now!
