29 Year Old Just Diagnosed with CF

A friend of mine was just diagnosed with CF at age 29. He does not have any problems with his lungs and never has as far as I know. His doctors are baffled and are running more tests to find out why he doesn't have the common symptoms. He is sterile and had the sweat test and it was confirmed that he has CF. Does anyone else have similar situations? I would appreciate any info you might have.

Hello, Anonymous. Cystic Fibrosis does not affect everyone the same way. It is a gene mutation, and there are literally countless numbers of different mutations. Some mutations can be very severe, while others (as in the case of your friend) are not. It is not unheard of for people to be completely healthy and still have CF. This information isn't exactly new, though. I'm suprised that the doctors are baffled; they must not know much about CF. =-) Jarod22 with CF

Dear AnonymousI was not diagnosed with CF until I was 22. As a youngter I was playing sports like hockey and baseball and was always in good shape. I would get chronic brhoncitis though. When I was 19-20 I went to college and did not have for hockey. That is when I started to get the symptoms. I had finally had enough and had to ask my family for an appointment with a Lung Specialist. I am 29 too, and my health has gone down gradually over ther years I find that exercise is the best thing for me. I workout at home anywhere from 4 to 6 days a week. My workout consists of approx. 50 min. strength training and 30 min. cardio.

To the posting above, good for you, staying fit. I need to do this so desperately, but don't know where to start. What gets you motivated? I could sure use some of it!<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif" border="0">
