Something else to consider on top of the O2 issue - it may be correlated to blood sugar as well.

I agree that O2 will DEFINITELY cause fatigue. BUT I know for me it doesn't really matter what the exercise I had problems with O2 when I started to have issues - whether it was light or not. It was more of a muscle fatigue than a sleep fatigue. I just felt like my legs would give out from under me - but I wasn't really tired. Then again it effects people differently I suppose.

As for the blood sugar you can get extremely sleepy if your sugar drops really low. You can get dizzy or feel disoriented. You do NOT have to sweat alot for your blood sugar to drop, or even at all really. I can walk on the treadmill for 30 minutes and be fine one day but the next I will walk for five and my sugar goes bonkers. It really just depends. Also the sugars fluctuating can cause extreme fatigue and for prolonged periods if you are not bringing it up after exercise with a snack or something.

I would maybe try drinking gatorade or something to that effect while you exercise. If you drink gatorade while you walk now but NOT while you do yoga - then it may very well be a blood sugar thing. I say that cause it is easier to drink and walk at the same time versus drink and do yoga AND gatorade has electrolytes to keep you hydrated and carbohydrates and sugars to keep your blood sugar up a bit.

Maybe something to look into. I know when I talked to a therapist she said that exercise can have affects on your blood sugar lasting up to 48 hours POST workout. Seeing as how that is possible I figured I would bring it up. I would mabe talk to your doc and see if there is a way for you to get a glucose monitor to use temporarily to monitor your sugars while you are exercising. It is worth a look.

Take Care and Welcome to the site - though I hate that you were just diagnosed.

exhaustion lasting days after exercise

Hey Bonniebaby,

I get this as well. I do a lot of exercise, (I use oxygen for it) mostly long distance endurance stuff. I get extremely exhausted if I push myself too hard and end up having to take a full week off. I find I end up sleeping more, my chest feels cruddier and my lungs actually feel "tired".

I think the thing is to start slow and build up, keeping an eye on how much you're doing and at what intensity. With CF you become VERY attuned to your body, and this you'll find is something that is invaluable as far as your health goes.

I also strongly recommend wearing a heart-rate monitor. This can tell you how hard you're actually pushing yourself. I find I can push myself too hard without knowing it because I'm having so much fun hiking, running or biking etc.

If you need any more advice, you can PM me.

Cheers,
Chris
