I live in an apartment complex. I have heard people coughing above me once in a great while. I cough my head off, but have never informed my neighbors. I do notice that most of my neighbors seem to move within a year. Don't know why though.

I live in an apartment and know that my neighbors hear me, because the walls are thin. I thought about telling, but then what could I do? I know it is annoying but I try and move away from the wall if I am coughing really bad. Everyone has annoying neighbors so I guess I am just one of them.

Nope, I wouldn't inform my neighbors. It's none of their business. As far as I'm concerned your money is as green as theirs. That is your space to rent and you have the right to keep yourself as healthy as you can. Keep in mind, they "only" have to listen to it. You have to do all the coughing and maintenance. I really don't think it's a big deal.

Have you seriously ever had anyone complain? I've never had anyone complain, even in the dorms in college, which I consider closer quarters than any apartment I've ever lived in. No one ever said a thing.
